Emergency Works at Mythe WTW

Back to news

July 2007 saw on the onslaught of heavy rainfall throughout the UK which resulted in devastating floods to a great many areas.

One location to suffer was the Mythe Water Treatment Works in Tewkesbury which was submerged by the rising flood water. The works had to be evacuated in the early hours of the morning and the entire site shut down. No assessment of the damage could be made until the flood water had subsided, at which point emergency works were carried out by suppliers from the Severn Trent Framework, including FSD, to restore water supplies as quickly as possible to some 140,000 homes in the Tewkesbury, Cheltenham and Gloucester areas.

FSD were called in on behalf of Biwater to perform the emergency works on site. Despite the lack of notice, FSD appreciated the critical nature of the situation and quickly managed to assemble a team of engineers for immediate despatch to Mythe.

Described by Severn Trent Water as “the largest incident of its kind experienced by any water company in the UK”, this was a very difficult time for all concerned, however, the clean up process proved a great success and the Mythe WTW is now fully operational.
