 Deephams STW in north London, serving a population of around 870,000, has undergone major refurbishment and upgrade to improve the reliability and performance of the effluent and sludge treatment assets under AMP5. Previously there was no tertiary treatment at the works.

FSD were awarded a contract for the design, supply and installation of the M&E equipment associated with a new Tertiary Treatment Plant, comprising a pumping station, screenings chamber, disc filters and a dirty backwash pumping station.  The scope consisted of the following:

  • All pipework
  • New flooring and access platforms
  • Equipment lifting beams
  • Drum diffuser for the disc filters
  • Electrical installation package including connection of all equipment and instrumentation, fibre optic network upgrade and buildings services

The detailed scope included the design, supply, delivery to site, off-load, installation, testing and commissioning, supply of all documentation & certificates of the cabling, pipework, access flooring, staircases, hand-railing, covers, backwash pump installation, lighting, earthing, lightning protection, local isolation, traywork, instrumentation, valves, penstocks, weir plates and diffuser drum associated with the Tertiary Treatment Plant.  FSD also acted as principal contractor for the plant area where the Tertiary Treatment plant was constructed.  

The project was completed within very tight timescales, and required detailed co-ordination and planning.
